When I saw the headline, “University gets its own beer”, I instantly thought of my former educational establishment.

I wasn’t disappointed:

Staff at a the University of Birmingham will be enjoying a warmer winter over the festive period thanks to the launch of a specially commissioned beer.

Incidentally, just outside the university’s South Gate, there is a pub that was once called the “Old Varsity Tavern”—more frequently just the “OVT”—and, indifferent to a couple of name changes, still was called that when I was there. Before the last change of ownership, one of the inside walls carried a mural of Bacchanal revelry accompanied by the motto, “USQUE AD MORTEM BIBENDUM”—“Let’s drink until death”.
