Sauce for the gander
Shock! Horror! One of our MPs has been forced to endure the indignity of forty minutes of close scrutiny by airport security officials.
What makes it really sweet is that he was on his way back from a series of counter-terrorism meetings. Ah well, serves him right for having a Muslim name. He’s probably dark-skinned, too. He must’ve ordered a Halal meal or something. That’s a red flag right there.
I’d like to think that it might lead to some re-evaluation of the intrusive and unproductive security theatre that travellers are now forced to endure. Sadly, it doesn’t seem that way:
The abusive attitude I endured last November I forgot about and I forgave but I really do believe that British ministers and parliamentarians should be afforded the same respect and dignity at USA airports that we would bestow upon our colleagues in the Senate and Congress.
Oh yeah? Well I reckon that we should afford the same respect and dignity to all travellers, regardless of skin colour or religious affiliation—politicians and private citizens alike.
