Klingon in Ruby

This is probably the geekiest thing you’ll see all day.

transliterating Klingon in Ruby

It’s no great surprise that Klingon isn’t officially sanctioned by the Unicode Consortium, but you can still use Klingon in Unicode. I wrote a couple of lines of Ruby to transliterate between the pIqaD writing system and the Latin transliteration.

Yes, there’s a reason behind this, and no, I don’t speak Klingon1!

1 although as far as constructed languages go, I don’t see that it’s any worse than Esperanto, Volapük, Toki Pona, Lojban etc.

    Personally, I think it’s a shame Klingon is not officially part of the standard. Let’s hope they’ll fix this in Unicode 6.0
