It was sixty years ago today that the first nuclear weapon was used in conflict, killing 140,000 people in Hiroshima.

It’s not the highest death toll—indeed, more people were killed during the firebombing of Tokyo, for example—yet there’s something uniquely horrible about weapons that can do that much with just one bomb.
