iPlayer downloads: now with radio

Auntie has added radio programmes to the iPhone version of the iPlayer today, so my downloader now supports them too. They are nothing more than plain old MP3 files.

You can get the new versions (0.1.12/1.8) on the project page.

Normally, BBC changes mean that I have to spend a bit of time working around them. In this case, however, it just worked out of the box. That was a pleasant change! All that I did was to change the file extension to .mp3 for radio programmes to be a bit more helpful.

You Sir, are truly a hero.
It just sucks that it wasn’t available in time to download Metallica Night.

    Works a treat!
My old system that downloaded the real player streams (in real time) and encoded them to mp3 format is now history.

Thanks for this Paul -”file” told me MPEG ADTS, layer III, v1, 128 kBits, 44.1 kHz, JntStereo, so I’ve been renaming the files for a while!

I’ve noticed that you’ve been “forced” to change the code much less frequently – do you think they’re working on a fiendishly obscure method or just given up trying to stop us? (I hope the latter).

Excellent thanks Paul works great and handy as the Orbit downloader method was becoming troublesome .
Now I can listen again on my iPhone wherever I choose.
It would be great if the script added ID3 tags to the downloaded mp3 – will have a look at this myself, though don’t have much experience ruby..

Both Life on mars ep 8 b0074sgm and heroes ep 1 b00dv5tn. Come up with the error
“An MP4 URL was found, but the download failed.”
    This didn’t happen with everything

Hey Paul, I had been using the downloader to copy Radio 4 prog onto my touch but now it seems to have stopped working. I have tried to download 12 different (random) prog’s this morning and all come up with the error message that they are unavailable. Any help would be great. Thank you
